A Logia and a Zoan as Post Christmas Presents to Ourselves

The Wonder Festival 2013 Summer has wrapped-up, leaving us a lot of new upcoming figures to look forward to. But the best ones are the product lines that you are following and collecting. And that's POPs for me. MegaHouse has unveiled some new and previously announced but fully painted prototypes. Two of those painted prototypes are actually going to be released as post Christmas presents to ourselves (assuming no more delays).

These two are POP Edition-Z - Aokiji Kuzan and POP MAS - Rob Lucci (Leopard Kami-e Bushin Ver.). Announced to be released this coming December 2013, preorders for these two POP starts next Wednesday, 7th of August 2013 at 18:00 (JST).

So let's talk first about what we will having on our display shelves after Christmas. First we have POP Edition-Z - Aokiji Kuzan. The first non-Mugiwara under POP Edition-Z. This POP may be falling under Edition-Z since this is Aokiji's Film Z movie appearance, but this can also be a Sailing Again POP since he appeared in this same outfit at Punk Hazard (sorry for the spoiler), not sure about the colors though. Making him an Edition-Z makes sense actually, since the first time we've seen an animated post-timeskip Aokiji is on Film Z.

I'm sure most of you has decided to include him on your must-get list even before he was fully painted. Seeing him now if full colors makes it clear that we will be crying if we're going to miss this release. The unpainted prototype shown back at MegaHobby EXPO 2013 Spring has his right hand inside his pocket. This time his right hand is fully transformed into an ice which is so cool. I really like seeing figures with a hint of their devil fruit abilities. So we can assume that he will come with two right arms, one with his hand inside his pocket and one with ice effect. I hope he will come with more accessories, but with a price of 7,980 yen, I think all we can see is one optional arm and a base.

The next one is POP MAS - Rob Lucci (Leopard Kami-e Bushin Ver.) or (Leopard Paper Drawing Fighting Form Ver.). It is under the new POP classification called MAS which means Motion Ability Statue. I really don't know what that means, but since there were already two POP that falls under this class, the other one being POP MAS - Tony Tony Chopper (Horn Point), I'm assuming this belongs to the Zoan transformed to their half-animal appearance. That's the case of this Rob Lucci POP and the Chopper that I have mentioned. Or it could also be as it name implies "Motion Ability" which maybe like a capture of their attacking form, more like Figuarts ZERO Battle ver line-up or Attack Motions, but without much effect parts. Anyway, we'll see about that later in future releases.

Getting back to this POP, Rob Lucci is in his half-leopard mode. This is actually his Seimei Kikan: Kami-e Bushin ability, which literally means Life Return: Paper Drawing Fighting Form. Kami-e makes the users' body go limp in order to avoid any attacks, and float like a piece of paper. This technique makes Lucci's half-leopard form smaller, lighter, and possibly increasing his speed. At any rate, he is much more agile in this form, and harder to hit - as opposed to his hulking normal half-leopard form.

It's nice to see MegaHouse come up with new POP class just to make character forms like this. I love how Lucci was posed in this form, showing a cat-like posture. Being the first of it's class, this is also a must get for every POP collector. I wonder if we can also see other CP9 or any other Zoan under this class. Marco is a good candidate. Or maybe he's better off being under Maximum with all the bells and whistles. What do you think?

Below are the details of these two POPs

POP Edition-Z - Aokiji Kuzan
  • Class: Edition-Z
  • Price: 7,980 yen
  • Release Date: December 2013

POP MAS - Rob Lucci (Leopard Kami-e Bushin Ver.)
  • Class: MAS
  • Price: 7,980 yen
  • Release Date: December 2013

The Epic Battle for the Position of Fleet Admiral

At last, we can finally see the battle between Aokiji and Akainu for the position of fleet admiral at Punk Hazard... at least on our display shelves. Bandai has released the official promo images of Figuarts ZERO - Aokiji Kuzan (Battle ver.) and Figuarts ZERO - Akainu Sakazuki (Battle ver.) at their Tamashii Web.

If you have been following my Facebook page and this blog, you have read my announcement earlier about Triple Logias to Explode on November. Apparently, only two of them will make it this coming November. Figuarts ZERO - Portgas D. Ace (Cross-fire - Battle ver.) has also been announced, but for January 2014 release and it's a Premium Bandai Web exclusive.

It's great to see these Figuarts ZERO Battle versions coming. I actually missed the previously released Figuarts ZEROs of the three vice-admirals. So this is a great opportunity to have them, in full attack stance with effect parts. I hope Kizaru will follow soon. I don't know if this two is really based on the battle between the two admirals at Punk Hazard since no one really ever seen that, except of Eiichiro Oda of course. He hasn't shown that scene yet.

These promo images are really nice to look at, but these are the strength of these Figuarts ZEROs. Most probably, the production releases won't be as great as what we're seeing here. But still, for an avid fan of One Piece figures, these are very nice catch.

Below are the details.

Figuarts ZERO - Aokiji Kuzan (Battle ver.)
  • Price: 4,725 yen
  • Release Date: November 2013

Figuarts ZERO - Akainu Sakazuki (Battle ver.)
  • Price: 4,725 yen
  • Release Date: November 2013
No preorder date announced yet so keep coming back to this blog or on my Facebook page for further announcements.

Update (2013-08-01): Preorders for these two figures starts TODAY, 1st of August 2013 at 16:00 (JST). Make sure you're ready by that time with your trustee browser and refresh technique, or you'll end up losing on this preorder battle.

No One to Stop the War Until Late-August

I believe most of you already read the news, but for those who are unaware yet, the release date of POP Neo-DX - Shanks has been moved from late-July to late-August 2013. That's one whole month of waiting. I don't know what's happening to MegaHouse as almost all of their recent POP releases are being delayed.

Well, I don't know about you, but for me, it's better to be delayed than to rush their production and end-up releasing low quality POPs. It's not as bad as Good Smile Company's delays anyway. Shanks won't reach Marineford to stop the war till late-August, so till then, let's continue wishing for more Red-haired pirates to get a POP treatment.

Still Under Construction - SA-Maximum Armored Franky

So we got another "delay" announcement from MegaHouse. The one that I'm actually worried of being delayed. Yes, the final piece to complete POP Sailing Again Mugiwaras, POP SA- Maximum - Armored Franky has been announced to be released on August 2013, instead of July 2013.

I find it not surprising since MegaHouse has been announcing delays for their releases since the beginning of the year. And for every month, this is like a normal announcement for them. I was actually hoping that it won't be the case for a shop exclusive POP (at least in Japan). But here it is, no exemption.

Good news for those who haven't saved enough to pay for it, you still have about a month to earn more. But for those like me who prefer to have him this month of July and not add to the August budget, let's just keep our money for next month, hoping that Franky won't be delayed any further.

Update: A quick info from a friend. It turns out that it will be released by Premium Bandai on the 9th of August 2013. It won't be a whole month long wait after all :)

Heartbreaker? Or Walletbreaker?

Hot Toys finally announced the famous Iron Man Mark XVII armor under their 1/6th Scale Movie Masterpiece product line - the Hot Toys: Iron Man 3 - 1/6th Scale Mark XVII Heartbreaker MMS. It looks pretty awesome but as usual, haters gonna hate.

So it's just another Iron Man armor they say... They're sick of seeing more of these armors they say... It only have a few seconds of screen time they say. Well there are a lot of haters for every Hot Toys release, but I can assure you, Hot Toys won't release something they didn't find bankable. And for Iron Man armors, there's whole lot of fans waiting for this, and that includes me.

New Release Photo Review: POP Edition-Z - Nico Robin

New Release Photo Review: POP Edition-Z - Nico Robin

After more than a week of delay, the overly sexy *sigh* POP Edition-Z - Nico Robin has finally been released by MegaHouse yesterday, 9th of July 2013. If the promotional photos aren't enough to get you excited, we got here some great shots of the production release on almost every possible angle for us to drool at.

So what shall we expect with MegaHouse's mass production quality?... Awesome! Well what else can I say? It's like you're looking at their perfected prototype. Their quality control is topnotch! I'm not seeing any paint and mold imperfection. Everything is the same as what we saw from early promotional images. The red base though is something we haven't clearly seen before with this figure, but it's almost the same as POP Edition-Z - Tony Tony Chopper's base design, except the shape and the embossed name of course. I'm assuming all the Edition-Z POPs will have the same base treatment.

I have nothing much to say about the release quality. This is what I like about MegaHouse. What you paid for is what you get. Releasing a totally impressive product and handing them to us without any noticeable production mistakes. Adding to the fact that their take on Film Z Nico Robin is really gorgeous and sexy. I can't ask much anymore than to get my hands on her.

My problem is, I have to wait for a few more weeks since I preordered the international release version at Figmation, which usually arrives about a week or two later than the Japan release. Well, I think it's worth the wait anyway. What I can't wait for is the completion of the strawhat crew in POP Edition-Z.

We already got two of them released, Chopper and Robin. And then Sanji will be coming in on September 2013. Luffy and Zoro's prototype has been revealed at the MegaHobby EXPO 2013 Spring, which left us waiting to see Nami, Usopp, Franky and Brook. I can't help but to think how would they release Edition-Z Nami. Will she be an adult or an 8-year old version? And then there is Edition-Z Franky. SA Franky haven't been released and yet we are looking forward to another massive POP. I'm excited as well as worried for this one.

If for some reason you missed preordering POP Edition-Z - Nico Robin, you may still be able to get her on some hobby shops. This is one saleable POP and is rapidly leaving store shelves so start moving and order her... Now!

At Last, Kalifa Is Now Ready to POP Our Bubbles

It was announced today that the long awaited POP LIMITED - Kalifa (yes, limited!) will finally be released on December 2013 for a price of 7,350 yen. That price is very much welcome, but sadly, only people of Japan will enjoy this pricing as this sexy CP9 is a limited edition POP.

We've seen her in a lot of MegaHouse figure exhibits and was tagged as Neo-DX but she was ultimately labeled as POP LIMITED during the recently held Megahobby EXPO 2013. I don't really understand how MegaHouse decides which one to be labelled as limited and which one is not. There isn't anything special about this figure to make it limited. I'm seeing her as just an average POP (a sexy one though). So why LIMITED MegaHouse? This will be a pain for all of us outside Japan.

Hopefully, she will have an international release just like other limited edition POPs, so we can avail her in a regular non-limited price outside Japan. No preorder schedule yet so be sure to keep an eye on this blog or my Facebook page for further announcements.
