Figuarts ZERO - Nami (New World ver.)

Figuarts ZERO - Nami (New World ver.)

The navigator of the straw hat pirates, Nami. This is the seventh addition to my Figuarts ZERO collection. And as a part of the New World version series, Nami is in her looks after the 2-year time skip.

Since I am trying to complete the New World series of the Straw hat pirates, I gotta have this..... No, the best reason to have this is due to sexiness factor of this figure :)

Nami is the third member, and the first female character of the crew (more details here). She is the most sought after character on any One Piece product merchandise. And that's the reason that I have to go through hardships hunting down this figure (that sounds exaggerated). Because it is really hard to find it anywhere once you missed the release availability. This was released late October 2011 for 2310 yen, and I was not able to get it at that time (due to some stupid reasons).

When I decided to purchase it last February 2012, most of the stores were out of stock. Luckily, I found it on FigureShop2go, an online shop in Hong Kong, but it cost me more than the manufacturer's recommended retail price.... and then Bandai announced the re-release of the New World series (sheesh!). Oh well, maybe it is better that I got it sooner than later. Who knows what will happen on the re-release since a lot of fans are also looking forward to it. I guess that what makes limited figure hunting fun. Anyway, regardless of the price, this figure is pretty. It stands 140 mm tall. Well not tall actually, it is shorter compared to robin and Zoro, that's because of the scaling. The photo below shows Nami with the other straw hat crew for size comparison.

Nami is taller than Luffy and Usopp but they have more volume as Nami is slim.

Nothing very special about the box, it is standard on all the New World series, almost the same size with that of Luffy's and Robin's. You may notice that the Toei sticker is silver, that's because it is a non-japanese version, meaning it is not intended for japanese market but for international market. Japanese version has gold Toei sticker. I got this from Hong Kong that's why it has a silver sticker. But don't be fooled by some retailers saying that the gold sticker has a different value than that of the silver, these products are actually made on the same factory, it just follow some distribution schemes, so they are actually the same. Or it may have a different value for some collectors, those who collects only the ones with gold stickers and likes to brag about them being originally came from Japan. I don't know about them, but I am happy with my collection as long as they are not bootlegs.

Just like Robin, this figure comes with a base and a small plastic that can be used to help Nami stand without the base.

The best part of this figure is the..... jeans, very nice painting details, it looks like faded on some areas. The log-pose is just one solid shiny green painted sphere attached to the bracelet molded on the wrist. The other bracelet can be moved a little bit since it is a separate plastic. The fingernails are painted. The tatoo on the shoulder is too big for this scale I think, but not too annoying. The face is a little different from the prototype, maybe because of the eyes, but I think the actual mass produced figures looks better, it looks more like Nami.

The base has a different jolly roger, it is Nami's personal jolly roger as drawn by Eiichiro Oda himself, (the author of this awesome manga story for those who don't know). There is also a japanese-quote on the stand that I can't read. Nami can stand without the base, but a little unstable without the clear plastic that can be attached to the legs to help with the stability, don't want to use that though cause it might scratch the paint. The pose is fine, but I wish they made it a bit more dynamic, holding her clima tact. Actually they did that in the upcoming battle version, but the pose is still too cute, not too battle-ish version, later on with that one.

The bikini bra painting looks fine, there were some issues but not too obvious. The breast.... yeah let us be a bit more R-18 here and talk about the breast. It's rather huge in proportion to the body (more Lara Croft-like proportion), I'm not sure if it's like these on the anime/manga, but it is nicely sculpted. You will notice some odd orange shading if you look very close, so don't look too close on this part, same goes with the butt crack. And don't stare, this is just a PVC figure not a real one, go out and get a date or something. The shape and the sculpt of the body on done nicely, but these only works with anime characters, it will look odd on real girls if they are this slim with huge breast. The subtle orange paint shading is also looking good. I wonder how they did it on the hips part that is covered by the hands.

The hair seam is visible but not an issue unless you have a macro-lens-like-eyes and look too close. I just had some problem, mine's got some excess paint splattered on the hair around the front, I think this issue is unique in my figure. I did not saw any any other review that mentioned it. I had to trim it down with some blade to remove it's obviousness. I managed to take it out but I scraped a bit more paint, so there are tiny unpainted PVC showing on the hair. Sad that it is on the front, but it looks way better than before. My gundam modelling skills comes in handy sometimes.

Overall I am impressed with this figure. If you decide not to complete the New World version series, this one is still a must have (I sounded like a promoter). Hope you enjoy this gallery. Check out other One Piece Figuarts ZERO here.
