New Release Photo Review: Figuarts ZERO - Sadie

New Release Photos: Figuarts ZERO - Sadie

Figuarts ZERO - Sadie was just released last Friday, 15th of September and here are some of the early photos from one of the retail version of this figure. Sadly, same as my thoughts on my previous post about New Release Photo Review: Figuarts ZERO - Nami (Battle ver.), Bandai did it again on this one. See for yourself if you are still planning to get her.

From these photos (thanks to http://blog.livedoor.jp/onepiece_figure/), you can see that there are lots of errors in paint application. I don't have a problem with the sculpt as these figures are produced using the same molding machine, but since the paints were applied on each figure separately, these we're bound to have errors.

Sure its normal to have some errors, sure the prototype may not look as good as the final product, and I can understand that. What I don't understand is that, this particular figure, has not only one, but lots of visible painting errors. And their quality control department doesn't seem to mind it at all. They boxed it and sold at a regular price which is totally unacceptable.

It maybe fine for people who usually orders from a local store where they can check the figure and select the best from their stock before paying, but how about those who orders online? They will just receive it, see the defects and cry. Yes, you can complain to the store and ask for a replacement, but what if they tell you that all of their stocks are the same? You have no option but to display a figure with defects and you will stare at it everyday regretting the day you ordered it.

I had some sleepless nights when I first saw the New Release Photo Review: Figuarts ZERO - Nami (Battle ver.), hoping that my copy wouldn't be as bad as that figure on those photos. Good thing I preordered from a local hobby shop. So when I am about to collect my copy, I had a chance to select from their stocks and thankfully, there were some good enough ones (aside from the horrible looking one that they were about to give me).

Lesson learned from these Figuarts ZEROs: Try to avoid ordering/preordering online. Get them from a local hobby shop if possible, where you can have a chance to select from their stocks. If you can resist preordering, better wait for the actual release date and look for photos of the mass produced versions on the internet. The promotional photos are just for reference and it may not look as good as what you will be displaying on your shelves.

Anyway back to the this figure, as I have mentioned, there are lots of offensive paint errors, and for the price of 2,940 yen, you'll feel like you're cheated if you were to receive this one. Below are the photos, you might want to compare these from the official promotional photos to see what I am trying to point out here.

Notice the pink shading on the side of her thighs? I'm not sure if it should be there. I did'n't see it on the promotional images.

A very offensive pink paints on the white scarf-like cape. Too sloppy painting on the lips.

What is that white paint on the lips? Is that supposed to be teeth?

Good thing I didn't preordered but also kinda sad cause I liked this figure. I may still try get it later if I found one that is good enough on a local hobby shop.
I can't judge the whole company and this product line by just looking at these few defective figures. There's still hope for these Figuarts ZEROs, so let's just see later where this product line is heading towards to.
