Completing The Trinity

Kotobukiya has already presented us their highly anticipated ArtFX release, the completion of DC's Trinity - the ArtFX Wonder Woman 1/6th Scale Statue. As with ArtFX Batman Black Costume and ArtFX Superman: For Tomorrow, Wonder Woman is also based on the illustration of Jim Lee.

I was in a total excitement about this release when they announced it back at NYCC 2013. I couldn't wait no longer when the unpainted sculpt was then revealed at Toy Fair 2014. And last week, my excitement gets pumped up when Kotobukiya posted a teaser photo of the figure on their Facebook page. I was really sure that the figure would come out perfectly. And at last, I wasn't disappointed when they published the official promo photos of the fully completed prototype last Saturday.

As a kid, I had a huge crush on Wonder Woman, and I guess up until now. For me she is the ultimate heroine. So I'm always on the look out for the best Wonder Woman statue. Kotobukiya had already made some Wonder Woman statues in the past. There are couple of Bishoujos and an ArtFX+ New 52. Although I am very happy with the first Bishoujo Wonder Woman, there is none that satisfy the lack of the classic comic book look Wonder Woman statue that I'm looking for. Those Bishoujos are actually an anime renditions based on Shunya Yamashita's artworks and the ArtFX+ New 52 version.... nah...doesn't really gets close to a Wonder Woman. It's great that Kotobukiya decides to give us the Jim Lee version which has the classic look but with a more recent artwork style.

I love how the sculpt captures Jim Lee's illustration. The face has that classy serious look of an Amazon Princess and the muscles and curves of her body has a feminine warrior look. The flowing cape adds up the the overall majestic look. The colors are all well done, and made the statue look alive. I'm totally speechless and in love with this figure.

My only nitpick are the details of the cape. Since they decided not to follow the blue color (with stars as in the reference illustration), and they went for the red, they should have put the gold trim with stars on the edges details on the cape as seen in the Superman: For Tomorrow comic book series (photo below). I'm sure it would add a lot of class to the statue. I wish they would do that in the final production.

This was actually my final deciding factor for getting Batman & Superman. And now that I am completely satisfied with the look of this piece, I have decided to complete The Trinity. In fact, I've already scored the ArtFX Superman: For Tomorrow yesterday. For the ArtFX Batman Black Costume, it's going to be re-released on November so no need to hurry, I'll just wait for that.

They really look great together. Wonder Woman does not have her own display base yet. As you would notice, she's quite tall and once she's stands on the base, she would be taller than Superman which can't be right as Superman should be relatively taller than her. Kotobukiya mentioned in a comment on their Facebook page that she would have a size reduction during the production to match the scaling of Batman and Superman. Great news for us who are aiming to complete the Trinity, not a very great news for those who wanted Wonder Woman alone as it's always nice to have a slightly bigger statue. Hope the details of the statue won't suffer in the process.

ArtFX Wonder Woman is slated to be released on November for 12,000 yen (tax inclusive). ArtFX Batman Black Costume will also be re-released on the same month as well. Preorders are now up at Amiami & Hobby Search.
